Cetonia(Eucetonia)pilifera pilifera, is a insect classified in the family Scarabaeidae, the genus Cetonia, commonly called Flower chafer (in Japanese: Hanamuguri =花潜), with green color on back, of the length between 14 and 20mm, is one of the species deeply relevant to pollination, as it visits many kinds of flowers from spring to autumn, therefore, is called Hanamuguri (=花潜) means flower diver. Some species (in Flower chafer) commonly seen can flap hindwings without opening the elytra (forewings) as Kanabun (Rhomborrhina japonica) dose that mentioned previously, and its flight ability is highly developed as well. Compared with the other beetles, it is not nocturnal, could be seen that flying at daytime. Additionally, it likes white flowers with many petals.
One of the common species Protaetia orientalis called Shiroten-hanamuguri(=白点花潜), has four relative species almost identical with it in Japan, especially the species Protaetia brevitarsis called Shirahosi-hanamuguri (=白星花潜) is not only similar in name, but also figure, moreover the distributions overlapped, thereby causing very confusion. To identify these, is perfectly relied on the differences of the white spots on their backs, yet is impossible to be distinguished by ordinary people.
This workentitled“Jizai Cetonia(Eucetonia)pilifera pilifera-temptation”has a different aspect as a paperweight, is a set with the magnetic pedestal flower interacts with the tips of the Flower chafer’s legs made of iron, that allows to make poses freely on the pedestal, thereby tempting man to play with it. Ironically, thus is indicating the flower’s temptation has been shifted from the Flower chafer to man, yet is the concept of this work.
I myself is a person easily distracted by this, and confronted with the temptation during work.
